Rosarito has been selected to take part in the International Training and Self-Diagnosis Program for Smart Tourist Destinations (DTI), an initiative spearheaded by the Ibero-American Network of Smart Tourist Destinations (RIDTI) through its Commission of National Governments.

The selection is the result of ongoing collaborative efforts led by Mayor Rocío Adame Muñoz, channeled through the Secretariat of Economic Development and Tourism (SEDETUR) in close partnership with the Rosarito Coordinating Council for Economic Development (CCDER).

The program brings together local governments from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and Uruguay, all working to strengthen their capacity for implementing the Smart Tourist Destination model. Through specialized training and a self-diagnostic process, promoting tourism becomes rooted in innovation, sustainability, sound governance, accessibility, and the strategic deployment of technology.

Mayor Rocío Adame Muñoz called the invitation a clear sign of her administration’s vision to position Playas de Rosarito as an increasingly competitive, forward-thinking, and sustainable destination while deepening coordination with the business community to drive economic growth and expand opportunities for local families.

“We are determined to nurture a tourism model that delivers tangible benefits to our community, strengthens close collaboration among government, the private sector, and civil society, and that elevates Playas de Rosarito to a benchmark status both nationally and internationally,” the mayor said.

The Secretary of Economic Development and Tourism, Irán Leonardo Verdugo Contreras, emphasized that participation in the program will enable the municipality to align its planning methodologies and tools with global standards.

“Transforming Rosarito into a truly world-class destination demands vision, creativity, and a collective effort. This international engagement gives us the opportunity to reinforce our institutional know-how, share best practices with peers across Ibero-America, and move decisively toward a tourism management model that is smarter, more sustainable, and more competitive,” Verdugo stated.

Officials also acknowledged the instrumental support of the Rosarito Coordinating Council for Economic Development (CCDER), which joined the municipal government in submitting the application. Their involvement reaffirms the critical value of public-private-community partnerships in advancing the municipality’s competitive standing.

With its participation in this initiative, the 10th City Hall of Playas de Rosarito, through SEDETUR, reaffirms its dedication to strengthen the destination’s competitiveness around innovation, technology, sustainability, inclusive governance, and universal accessibility to cement a tourism development strategy that generates lasting prosperity and well-being for every resident of Rosarito.
