Against the stunning backdrop of the Pacific coastline, the 6th Annual Air Festival opened with a series of spectacular flights, showcasing the region’s ideal conditions for free-flight sports, underscoring Playas de Rosarito’s profile as a top-tier adventure destination in Mexico and bolstering Baja California’s international tourism appeal.
The inauguration was led by Mayor Rocío Adame Muñoz, who emphasized the festival’s role in highlighting the area’s natural assets and drawing local and international tourists with a passion for aerial sports.
The festival brings together paragliding and hang gliding pilots, who harness the region’s exceptional natural conditions to put on a breathtaking show against one of the most iconic backdrops along the Baja California coast. At the same time, the event serves as a vital boost to local tourism and the regional economy.

At the opening ceremony of the 6th Annual Air Festival, the mayor extended a warm welcome to participants, visitors, and local families, highlighting the festival as a key opportunity to showcase the municipality’s natural heritage, invigorate the tourism sector, and introduce girls, boys, and young people to the aerial sports that have come to define the spirit of Playas de Rosarito.
“We are entering the summer season, and this is one of the events that captivates our youth and children the most,” said Mayor Adame. “Many people are still unaware that paragliding is possible here, and we want to change that. Our goal is to invite more people to discover this activity, visit Rosarito, and experience everything our municipality has to offer.”
The mayor also encouraged families and tourists to take enjoy the aerial exhibitions, community festivities, and the scenic beauty of the Alisitos zone, where hundreds of attendees camp each year to fully immerse themselves in the festival atmosphere.

Also in attendance was Irán Leonardo Verdugo, the municipality’s Secretary of Economic Development and Tourism, who reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that drive both tourism and sports development in the region.
Salomón Magno, director of the 6th Annual Air Festival , noted that Playas de Rosarito holds a unique distinction in Mexico: it is the only location in the country where pilots can launch with a direct ocean view and glide along the coast toward Ensenada.
He added that future editions aim to elevate the event to an internationally recognized status, further positioning Baja California as a hub for paragliding and other free-flight disciplines.
Magno also highlighted the sport’s growing momentum, fueled by a new generation of aviators including the children of one of the region’s pioneering pilots, who now represent the second generation to take to the skies.

Under the banner “Navega, vuela y vive la Baja” (Navigate, Fly, and Live Baja), the festival unites national and international pilots alongside adventure-seeking visitors, offering thrilling exhibitions and recreational activities set against one of the country’s most breathtaking coastal backdrops.
The Playas de Rosarito City Hall reaffirms its dedication to hosting events that enhance tourism, stimulate the local economy, and strengthen Baja California’s standing as a competitive destination on both the national and international stage, all while celebrating the natural beauty and adventurous spirit that define the region.
