From July 25 to August 1, the Playas de Rosarito’s State Center for the Arts (CEART) will host the 14th edition of the Opera Facing the Sea Festival.
Organized by the Rosarito Tourism and Conventions Committee (COTUCO Rosarito), the festival invites audiences from both the U.S. and Mexico to experience a unique fusion of coast, live music, opera, and family-friendly activities by the shoreline.
This year’s program brings together more than 50 singers ranging from amateur performers to seasoned professionals, hailing from various regions of Mexico, including Baja California, Oaxaca, and Puerto Rico.

Concurrent with the festival, the 3rd Rosarito Operatic Conference (ENOR) will offer a rich educational component featuring masterclasses, rehearsals, staging workshops, and lectures led by nationally and internationally recognized teachers, accompanists, stage directors, researchers, and musicians. These sessions are open to the public as listeners.
Complementary events are also scheduled throughout the week: on Sunday, July 26, at 4:00 p.m., the Hotel Festival Plaza will host the Song of Art presentation, featuring performances by ENOR participants, and on Tuesday, July 28, the Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT) will present a Broadway Night showcase.

Event Locations
The festival’s centerpiece takes place on Saturday, August 1, with the main performance titled “From the Deep Ocean to the Shores of the Soul.” The first half features selections from beloved musicals including The Little Mermaid, Moana, Peter Pan, and Once on This Island, offering all audiences and ages an accessible entry point into the world of sung theater.

The second half shifts to classical opera, presenting scenes from Giuseppe Verdi’s Otello, Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, and Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.
For the first time in the festival’s history, all performances will be accompanied by a live orchestra, creating an unforgettable presentation for all listeners. To further enhance accessibility, the opera number performed in their original Italian will be presented with subtitles.
