The San Diego Comic-Con 2026, the annual event that draws fans eager to celebrate fantasy, comics, superheroes, cosplay, and all things geek culture, officially kicks off on Thursday, July 23.
Prohibited Conduct at This Year’s Convention
While excitement is running high among ticketed attendees, security and protocol remain top priorities at the San Diego Convention Center.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, the event has outlined several zero-tolerance policies. Committing any of the following infractions could lead to swift removal from the premises:
- Running: For safety reasons, running in any indoor area or hallway is strictly forbidden.
- Smoking or Vaping: The convention center and all affiliated venues are completely smoke-free, including e-cigarettes and vaporizers. Violating this rule may result in immediate expulsion.
- Unauthorized Sales: Retail vending is prohibited outside of designated exhibition spaces. Only approved booths may sell merchandise.
- Harassment or Offensive Behavior: All attendees are expected to uphold basic standards of respect, courtesy, and civil conduct.
- Firearms or Real Weapons: Functional weapons are not permitted on site. The sole exception is for active-duty law enforcement officers.
- Hyper-Realistic Emergency Costumes: Cosplay depicting police officers, paramedics, or first responders in a realistic manner is not allowed.
These measures represent the most severe consequences organizers are prepared to enforce in order to maintain a secure and welcoming atmosphere.

The convention also enforces a number of other important rules that all visitors should review prior to arrival:
- Blocking Aisles: Per fire department regulations, sitting near doors, columns, or walkways is prohibited. Attendees should use only designated rest zones.
- Oversized Costumes and Luggage: Bulky outfits, rolling carts, and suitcases are not permitted on the exhibit floor. Those wearing voluminous costumes may be asked to remove them if security deems them a mobility hazard.
- Unsolicited Promotional Materials: Distributing flyers, stickers, or other advertising without prior authorization is banned both inside and outside the venue unless conducted from an official booth or approved table.
- Live Streaming: Broadcasting any panel, program, or official convention content via personal electronic devices including phones, tablets, or laptops is strictly prohibited.
- Alcohol Consumption: Bringing or consuming alcoholic beverages inside the Convention Center or at any off-site official events is not allowed.
- Mandatory Security Screenings: All attendees must submit to bag checks, metal detectors, and portable scanner inspections at entry points.
- Prop Inspections: Every costume accessory must be examined and tagged at designated counters (located in lobbies C2, D, and E) before entering the exhibition hall.
- Visible Security Tags: Once affixed by staff, the inspection tag must remain clearly visible on the prop for the duration of the event.
