Tijuana Mayor Abdiel Gutiérrez Coronado oversaw the distribution of 350 backpacks filled with school supplies to children in the Sánchez Taboada and La Mesa districts in order to ease the financial burden on local families.

The initiative aims to ensure that students have the essential resources they need to stay in school and succeed academically.

The first delivery took place in the Sánchez Taboada delegation, where 200 school packages were handed out.

Education as a Pathway to Opportunity

Mayor Abdiel Gutiérrez underscored the transformative power of education, describing it as a foundational tool for expanding opportunities for younger generations.

He reaffirmed City Hall’s commitment to standing alongside families and fostering conditions that support the healthy development of children and teenagers.

The mayor’s remarks align with the broader national strategy of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

“This is not just about handing out pencils and crayons. It’s about strengthening our children and young people, giving them hope to pursue their dreams and encouragement to continue their education,” he said.

Speaking at the event, Gutiérrez Coronado highlighted education as a cornerstone for expanding life opportunities.

“We want this City Hall to continue fostering an environment where everyone can pursue their education,” he said. “Learning unlocks countless doors and gives our youth the chance to achieve their goals.”

Supporting Students Across Tijuana

Guadalupe Rubio Cucue, the city’s Delegations Coordinator, noted that this initiative is part of a citywide effort to bring government services directly to residents.

“Mayor Gutiérrez has instructed us to deliver school supplies to every district,” she explained. “Our goal is to support families and provide students with the motivation and tools they need as they return to the classroom.”

As part of the ceremony, officials made a symbolic presentation of six backpacks with supplies in each district, recognizing a small group of children who represent the hundreds of students set to receive assistance.

The events were attended by Teresa García Bañuelos, delegate of Sánchez Taboada, and Martha Montejano Cárdenas, delegate of La Mesa, along with the beneficiaries.
