Tijuana Mayor Abdiel Gutiérrez Coronado officially inaugurated the new ‘Margarito Saldaña’ pedestrian bridge in the Camino Verde area. The infrastructure project is expected to directly and indirectly benefit more than 55,000 residents, improve mobility, and increase safety.
Speaking before leading an inspection walk, Abdiel Gutiérrez said:
“This is a bridge our citizens have long requested, and today we are proud to deliver it as part of City Hall’s commitment to Tijuana,” he said. “It connects the La Mesa and Sánchez Taboada districts, making daily commutes safer and more efficient.”

Construction on the bridge began in January of this year, following repeated calls from local residents for a safer crossing point due to pedestrian vulnerability in the area.
According to Virginia Vargas González, head of the Secretariat of Territorial and Urban Development, the bridge was funded entirely through municipal resources, with a total investment of 15.8 million pesos.

“This is a 37.08-meter superstructure with 260 linear meters of spiral ramps, along with 385 square meters of new sidewalks. New lighting fixtures and poles were also installed. This is a high-quality piece of infrastructure that will serve the community for years to come,” she added.
The event was attended by Carlos Gastélum Félix, Director of Municipal Public Works and Urban Infrastructure, alongside delegates Teresa García Bañuelos (Sánchez Taboada) and Martha Eugenia Montejano Cárdenas (La Mesa).

The inauguration is part of a broader push by City Hall to advance priority public works that address urban needs, improve mobility, and strengthen urban infrastructure with projects that contribute to the development and well-being of families.
