Following overnight rainfall on Wednesday, Tijuana’s municipal government has expanded cleanup and maintenance work across the city, targeting stormwater infrastructure and roadways where accumulated mud, sediment and trash could interfere with drainage.
The work includes clearing debris from storm channels, removing sediment from drainage ditches, sweeping streets and unclogging stormwater infrastructure. Crews are using both manual labor and specialized machinery to address areas affected by the rain.

Cleanup Work Reaches Multiple Tijuana Districts
Municipal crews are carrying out maintenance in several parts of the city, including:
- La Presa Este: Removing trash and cleaning stormwater channels.
- San Antonio de los Buenos and Playas de Tijuana: Cleaning roads, clearing mud and removing sediment from drainage ditches.
- La Mesa: Clearing sediment from a stormwater channel and addressing buildup on Gladiolas Street in the Valle de las Flores neighborhood.
- Centro: Cleaning storm drains and removing sediment along Avenida Internacional in the Alemán neighborhood.
- Sánchez Taboada: Cleaning the stormwater channel in the Infonavit Cachanillas neighborhood.
The work is intended to keep water moving through the drainage system and reduce the risk of blockages and flooding during further rainfall.

More Showers Possible in Tijuana
Thursday’s forecast called for a 60% chance of showers during the day, with mostly cloudy skies expected in the afternoon. Temperatures were forecast to reach around 68°F (20°C), with light westerly winds of 6 to 9 mph (10 to 15 km/h).
With additional rain possible, city authorities urged residents to avoid dumping trash in streets, storm channels, streams and public spaces. Improperly discarded waste can obstruct drainage systems and contribute to water pooling and flooding.

Safety Advice for Residents
Residents are encouraged to follow official weather updates, drive cautiously and avoid crossing flooded streets, streams or other inundated areas. Anyone who encounters a dangerous situation or emergency should contact 911.
The city said cleanup and preventive maintenance will continue across Tijuana’s nine municipal districts to keep roads and public spaces in better condition during the rainy season.
