Coffee shops from Tijuana and Rosarito will gather by the Pacific Ocean on November 1 for the fifth edition of Café en el Mar, a festival combining specialty coffee, local art, live music and family activities at the gardens of Rosarito Beach Hotel.

The event will run from 2 to 10 p.m. and offer free admission. Organizers expect more than 45 booths featuring coffee shops, restaurants, books and artwork by local painters.

Presented at a press conference hosted by Tijuana’s Committee of Tourism and Conventions (COTUCO), this year’s festival will coincide with Mexico’s Día de Muertos celebrations. Octavio Machado Sánchez, president of CANIRAC Rosarito (Mexico’s National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry), said the date was changed because of scheduling and venue considerations, and organizers decided to make the occasion part of a special edition.

More Than 45 Booths From Local Coffee Shops and Restaurants

The festival will bring together businesses from across the region, giving them an opportunity to introduce products and test new offerings with visitors.

Participating coffee shops include Expreso 29, Cafetería Los Dos, Prana, Rosy Café, Árido Café, Contigo Café, Bean Brothers, Monociclo, Sabor a Canela, Café del Mar, Café Lulu, Café Verde and El Mambo Café.

Adilene Urías, secretary of CANIRAC Rosarito, described the gathering as a family-friendly activity with live music throughout the afternoon and evening.

Gilberto Gamiño Herrera, president of COTUCO Tijuana, also encouraged community events that give residents opportunities to spend time together through healthy recreational activities.

A 5K Race to Support Children With Autism

Coffee is not the only draw. The program will include a 5-kilometer race organized in coordination with Social Coffee Runners, with much of the route running along Rosarito’s beaches.

Registration costs 350 Mexican pesos, and proceeds will go to the municipal DIF, which is supporting a residential care facility for children with autism.

Saúl Álvarez Rojas, director of COTUCO Rosarito, said the festival is part of the broader Día de Muertos program organized by the city’s Municipal Institute of Art and Culture at its new building in CECUR, next to the beach.

Álvarez added that Rosarito hosts more than 120 events throughout the year, with around 30 still scheduled.
