Baja California officials revealed the state is continuing to see improvements in key public safety indicators, citing declines in homicides alongside major drug confiscations and weapons recoveries carried out over the past year and a half.
Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda highlighted the results during a recent Security Roundtable meeting, where state and federal authorities reviewed the latest crime and enforcement data.
According to the governor, Baja California’s security strategy was recently recognized at the national level by Mexico’s Secretary of National Defense, Ricardo Trevilla Trejo, during President Claudia Sheinbaum’s daily press conference.

Trevilla credited state security officials, including Baja California Public Security Secretary, Laureano Carrillo Rodríguez, for their role in implementing the state’s security strategy.
Large-scale drug confiscations and thousands of arrests
Authorities said they confiscated 34.4 metric tons of illicit substances during the period, one of the largest totals reported in the state in recent years.
Law enforcement agencies also recovered 1,553 firearms and arrested 5,529 individuals allegedly linked to criminal activity. Officials said those detained were turned over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
The figures reflect operations carried out through coordinated efforts involving federal agencies, the military and state law enforcement organizations.

Homicides and high-impact crimes continue to decline
State data covering the period from October 2024 through May 2026 shows a 42% reduction in intentional homicides and a 39% decline in high-impact crimes. The government says those trends have contributed to gradual improvements in public safety conditions across the state.
Officials also pointed to a decline in residents’ perception of insecurity. Institutional indicators show the figure dropping from 76.9% in December 2025 to 73.8% by the end of March 2026.

Governor Ávila Olmeda said the state plans to continue investing in technology, intelligence gathering and operational capabilities while maintaining close coordination with federal authorities. She added that the efforts remain focused on improving security conditions and strengthening public safety throughout Baja California.
