The new Otay I–Otay II bypass road will officially open this coming Monday to expedite border crossings and alleviate heavy traffic congestion in the area, according to Governor Marina del Pilar.
For its initial phase, only empty cargo trucks will be permitted to use the route but starting from October 3, loaded commercial vehicles will be allowed entry.
The bypass will operate under the following schedule:
- Monday – Friday: 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM
- Saturday & Sunday: 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM and 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM
Officials emphasized that overnight parking inside the customs area is strictly prohibited.
Mexico’s National Customs Agency (ANAM), which constructed the project, added that the bypass will optimize existing infrastructure at the Otay Port of Entry and keep commercial transit moving smoothly.
The route for cargo trucks will be as follows:
- Trucks will enter via the interchange on Blvd. Alberto Limón Padilla and merge onto the Otay II access viaduct (2.55 km).
- Vehicles will proceed along a marked corridor inside the Otay II site, exiting through the northwest perimeter gate (0.75 km).
- Trucks will merge onto Av. Internacional to reach the Otay I Port of Entry, which remains fully operational for border processing (2.5 km).
The entire designated route spans 5.8 kilometers from beginning to end, with a mandatory speed limit of 30 km/h.
