Rubbery and greasy tripe taco by “Asadero El Tecolote” in Tijuana gets a 7.2

Chef Danny also tried an adobada vampiro tostada

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Asadero El Tecolote” located at Blvd. Gral. Abelardo L. Rodríguez 10, Centro. On this occasion he tried a tripe taco priced at $2.28 dollars ($40 pesos) and an adobada vampiro tostada priced at $2.85 dollars ($50 pesos).

Tripe Taco

This taco has tripe, guacamole, charred salsa, and it is served on a corn tortilla. When he took his first bite, Chef Danny said that though it was fried well, it had a rubbery consistency.

He added that he felt that the tripe had been in the oil too long, to the point that the grease overwhelmed the palate despite the guacamole helping to lighten the taco up. The salsa had a flavor that was too charred which mixed with the tripe; it was also very spicy. Chef Danny did not really like the tortilla, as it had been warmed in the coal, it dried a little bit, though it had a good smoked flavor. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.2.

Price: $2.28 dollars ($40 pesos)

Adobada Vampiro Tostada

This tostada has al pastor meat, guacamole, asadero cheese, onion, charred salsa, and it is served on a tostada. The first thing to note about this tostada is that it looked fried, so much that Chef Danny was drooling just by seeing the dish and he couldn’t wait to try it.

When he did try it, Chef Danny claimed that the tostada added a very good flavor and texture, as it was fried with coal one could taste the smoked flavor. Th adobo had a good presence as it wasn’t invasive and it didn’t get lost. The asadero cheese had a good push and added a lot to this tostada. The salsa had pieces of California pepper, jalapeño pepper, tomato, and onion and along with the avocado, they added a very good flavor. This is why this tostada gets a rating of 8.8.

Price: $2.85 ($50 pesos)
