Tijuana has its own Barbie Taco and it is served by “Tacos El Tijuano”

Chef Danny was delighted by their adobada taco due to its great flavor

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “El Tijuano” located at Catorceava 1125, Colonia Libertad. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a carne asada taco and an adobada taco, both priced at $2.1 dollars ($35 pesos).

Adobada Taco

This taco has adobada meat, onion, cilantro, red salsa, guacamole, and it is served on two corn tortillas. The first thing to note about this taco was the good color of the adobada meat as well as the tortillas, as they were bigger than the ones usually used for these tacos.

When he tried it, Chef Danny claimed that just by seeing the color he could see that it was good adobada. He added that “this is how the adobada should be taken from the spit” as it had a fried exterior, but it was juicy inside; it had a balanced flavor without overwhelming the palate. The salsa with tomato and chile de árbol wasn’t very spicy, and it helped to humidify the protein more. Since it had avocado flesh, the taco felt “spread out”. The tortillas were missing humidity, but they were fried nonetheless, which our host liked. This is why this taco gets a rating of 9.3.

Carne Asada Taco

This taco has carne asada, guacamole, onion, coriander, and it is served on a corn tortilla. This is a special taco, because the tortilla was pink. Chef Danny assumed that this was because they added beet to the dough. He added that this taco was part of a promotion called “Combo Barbie” as the tortilla makes a reference to this film.

When he took his first bite, Chef Danny said that though the presentation was pretty good thanks to its vibrant color, the maize flavor was very light. On the other hand, in the meat, the smoked coal flavor and its juiciness stood out because, when he bit it, it practically broke down in his mouth. It was seasoned lightly as Chef Danny did not taste any intense marinade. He reiterated his gratitude that they served guacamole with pure avocado flesh. The taco’s sauce was very spicy, which is why it gets a rating of 8.4.
