Boat Carrying 13 Immigrants Stopped Off San Diego-Tijuana Coast

Marine agents aboard coastal interceptor boats quickly moved in and stopped the ship, which had been flagged as a target of interest.

A boat packed with 13 illegal immigrants was intercepted off the San Diego-Tijuana maritime border last week, authorities said.

The incident took place on April 17, when U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Air and Marine Division spotted an “object of interest” about five nautical miles south of the ocean border line. The vessel was headed toward San Clemente Island.

Marine agents aboard coastal interceptor boats quickly moved in and stopped the ship, which had been flagged as a target of interest. On board, they found 13 undocumented immigrants:

  • 7 adult men
  • 5 adult women
  • 1 accompanied minor

Both the boat and the migrants were taken to Ballast Point Naval Base for processing.
