For 25 years, Shakespeare’s Corner Shoppe has been a little slice of Great Britain in the heart of Mission Hills. Now, the city of San Diego is officially honoring the beloved British grocery store, the only one of its kind in the entire city.
Located at 3719 India Street, Shakespeare’s Corner Shoppe has spent the last two and a half decades bringing authentic British flavors to local residents.
From savory meat, potato, and onion pies to over 70 distinct tea blends and snacks imported straight from the island, the shop offers a taste of the U.K. that you simply can’t find anywhere else in San Diego.

Owner Overcome with Emotion
Selina Stockley, the shop’s owner, was visibly moved by the news. For her, this recognition means more than any sales figure ever could.
Stockley didn’t start out as the owner. She first managed Shakespeare’s Corner Shoppe as general manager before being offered the business by its previous owners. Determined to seize the opportunity, she mortgaged her home to make the purchase.
At the time, she was six months pregnant. Today, her son is nearly 20 years old.
Like many small businesses, Shakespeare’s Corner Shoppe faced serious hurdles, most notably the COVID-19 pandemic. But rather than buckle under pressure, the shop adapted and managed to thrive.
Now, the city of San Diego is honoring the store for 25 years of service to the community, celebrating its commitment to offering authentic products that honor British culture.
