Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda has called on Baja Californians to take precautions in light of the forecasted rise in temperatures, aiming to protect the health and well-being of the population.

“The most important thing is to take care of our families. I urge everyone to follow Civil Protection recommendations and stay informed through official channels. Let’s pay special attention to children, the elderly, people with disabilities or chronic illnesses, as they are the most vulnerable to extreme heat,” Governor Marina del Pilar said.

The governor emphasized that, according to Baja California’s Civil Protection reports, extremely high temperatures are expected until Sunday, May 11, with Mexicali, San Felipe, and Tecate experiencing the highest heat levels.

The state capital is expected to reach up to 43°C (109°F), while San Felipe and Tecate will see highs between 35°C and 36°C (95°F–97°F). In coastal areas, temperatures will range between 23°C and 29°C (73°F–84°F), with wind gusts of up to 60 km/h and waves up to 2.5 meters.

The governor urged people to avoid prolonged sun exposure and to take preventive measures against heatstroke, a life-threatening condition.

She recommended staying well-hydrated, wearing light and light-colored clothing, seeking shade whenever possible, and, most importantly, never leaving people or pets inside vehicles, as interior temperatures can rise rapidly.

She also called for special care for children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and those suffering from chronic illnesses, as they are more vulnerable to the effects of extreme heat.
