A civil judge has ruled in favor of former state official Carlos Torres Torres in his defamation lawsuit against the nationally circulated newspaper Unomásuno, determining that the outlet published unverified and baseless claims against him.
The ruling, handed down on April 16 by Judge Hugo Roberto Pérez Lugo of the Mexico City Second District Court in Civil Matters, found that the articles published on September 18, 2025, lacked any factual foundation.
According to the judge’s decision, the newspaper not only failed to verify the information but also repeatedly denied Torres Torres the right to reply.

After reviewing the evidence presented by Torres Torres’s legal team, the judge ordered Unomásuno to publish the ex-official’s right to reply in both its print edition and digital platforms.
In addition, the court slapped the newspaper with a fine equivalent to 500 Units of Measurement and Update (UMA), roughly $59,000 pesos, and ordered it to cover all legal costs incurred throughout the trial.
