Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda presided over the graduation of the first generation of the “Reconnect with Peace” program, a federal strategy spearheaded by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to rebuild social fabric and offer new beginnings.

The ceremony celebrated young people from vulnerable backgrounds who showed remarkable commitment and dedication. The program aims steer youth away from high-risk environments and open doors to education, employment, and social reintegration.

During the event, the governor emphasized that “Reconnect with Peace” is a program focused on a justice policy rooted in a humanistic vision, built from the ground up alongside communities. It represents a bet on dignity and a different future for the youth of Baja California.

“This first generation is proof that change is possible. Today, we celebrate with great pride young people who decided to write a new chapter in their lives, those who chose to reconnect with their dreams, their dignity, and with peace,” the governor said.

Esthela Damián Peralta, Legal Advisor to the Federal Executive Branch, praised the initiative as a model of government collaboration.

“I want to thank Governor Marina del Pilar, a great partner on this journey. She doesn’t just open the door to dialogue, she opens her entire government and its public policies to support these young people,” she said,.

Thanks to close coordination between the federal government and Baja California, the state now leads the nation with the highest number of young participants in the program.

For the graduates themselves, the experience was deeply personal. Fabiola Sotelo Carrillo, speaking on behalf of her peers, described “Reconnect with Peace” as a space for self-discovery. He explained that program helped them understand what they feel and how to connect better with others. They learned that peace isn’t just the absence of conflict. It’s a daily choice to listen, to forgive, and to act with empathy.
