Starting Monday, May 12, travelers using the San Ysidro Fast Lane will be able to cross at any time of day. Tijuana City Hall, under Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, announced through the Secretariat of Economic Development (SEDETI) that the Fast Lane booth will now operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Pedro Montejo Peterson, head of the SEDETI, explained that this change is part of a strategy to improve border-crossing efficiency for Fast Lane users, facilitate international transit, and provide greater convenience and flexibility.
Average of 1,800 Crossings Registered Daily
The municipal official noted that an average of 1,800 daily crossings is currently recorded at Fast Lane booths—a number expected to rise with the extended hours at the San Ysidro Ready Lane.
This change will directly benefit students, people with medical appointments, and business travelers, who make up the program’s three main user groups. They will now have unrestricted 24-hour access to the service. Notably, this measure is designed to be permanent.

Fast Lane: A Key Tool
Key benefits of this expansion include: reduced wait times during late-night and early-morning hours, support for nighttime commerce and tourism in the city, and strengthening the Fast Lane program as a major tool to improve mobility and quality of life for people who cross daily between Tijuana and San Diego.
The Fast Lane program is a rapid-pass system designed to expedite border crossings for individuals using medical services, engaging in business travel, or studying in the United States.
Those interested in joining the program or seeking more information can visit the Centro de Atención al Emprendedor (CAE) on the first floor of the Municipal Palace, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., or call (664) 973-7000 or (664) 973-7125.
