The Himno Nacional Mexicano Elementary School, located in the Las Cumbres neighborhood in the Playas de Tijuana district, now boasts two newly constructed classrooms that will serve more than one thousand students.
Mayor Abdiel Gutiérrez Coronado officially inaugurated the project this Wednesday and subsequently led a tour of the campus facilities.
During the event, the mayor emphasized that these new spaces ensures that the school’s children will have dignified, secure, and well-equipped classrooms that foster an optimal environment for learning and daily academic activities.
“This school’s students will now have access to high-quality spaces, designed to provide a comfortable, safe, and respectful setting for education across multiple subjects,” the mayor stated.

1.4 Million Peso Investment from Ramo 33
Virginia Vargas González, Secretary of Territorial and Urban Development, noted that the construction required an investment exceeding 1.4 million pesos, funded through the federal Ramo 33 program, and included the construction of load-bearing walls and roofing, installation of windows and iron doors, and interior and exterior painting and lighting.
She further explained that the classrooms were built using a regional structural design, which allows them to serve as temporary shelters during emergencies or natural disasters.

Retaining Wall Also Constructed
A retaining wall was also built at the rear of the property to protect the new infrastructure and ensure its long-term preservation.
Councilwoman Michel García Arceo emphsized that the project directly responds to a long-standing need voiced by the school community and will markedly improve conditions for the students.
“During the rainy seasons, students faced significant difficulties because the previous classrooms were not in ideal condition. With this new project, more than a thousand children will benefit. Let us remember that for this humanist government, the well-being of our youth is a top priority,” she stated.

Parents Initiated Classroom Construction
The initiative for the new classrooms originated from a formal request made by local parents to the Playas de Tijuana Delegation.
García Arceo encouraged residents to approach their local delegations with their concerns and proposals, ensuring that priority projects can reach the communities most in need.
María del Rosario García Rocha, the school’s principal, thanked Mayor Abdiel Gutierrez for turning the project into reality and highlighted the positive impact it will have on the school community.
“These classrooms are a gift for our children. On Monday, when they return to classes, they will be overjoyed to see this new space,” she said.
The Tijuana City Hall reaffirms its commitment to addressing educational infrastructure needs and guaranteeing that Tijuana’s children have access to dignified, safe, and functional learning environments, strengthening the foundational conditions that support their growth and education.
