Tecate’s Tacos El Amigo disappoints due to their watery guacamole and griddled adobada

The way in which the adobada meat was cut also modified its flavor

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tecate, our host, Chef Danny Betancourt, went to “Tacos El Amigo” located at Av. Nuevo León Esq. Quintana Roo. On this occasion he tried two tacos: an adobada taco priced at $1.3 dollars ($27 pesos) and a tongue taco priced at $1.75 dollars ($35 pesos).

Adobada Taco

The first thing that caught Chef Danny’s attention was that the taco was served with watery guacamole, since one can see at first glance that it has been diluted with some liquid. This taco has adobada meat, onion, coriander, red sauce, two store bought corn tortillas, and a lot of grease.

Though the corn tortilla was store bought, the grease gave it a nice flavor and humidity, mixing well with all the ingredients. The bad things about it however were both the watery guacamole and the adobada meat which, though it had a nice flavor thanks to the condiments, was griddled and cut in big sizes, which modifies its flavor. When the meat comes from the metal stick, it has thinner slices and a different texture. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.2.

Tongue Taco

This taco has beef tongue, onion, coriander, green sauce with a nice texture (it wasn’t too liquid or too thick), and it was all served on two store bought tortillas. This disappointed Chef Danny as he had seen somebody preparing handmade tortillas, but it seems like these are used for the asada tacos.

The tongue was cooked correctly since it could be chewed without its texture feeling too hard. The Mexican husk tomato sauce with jalapeño had a nice flavor and the tortilla had a good taste. This is why this taco gets a rating of 8.0.
