On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Mariscos La Callejera” located at Blvd. Gustavo Díaz Ordaz 16851, Mexico Lindo. On this occasion, he tried two tacos: a battered shrimp taco priced at $2.35 dollars ($40 pesos) and a gobernador taco priced at $2.94 dollars ($50 pesos).
Battered Shrimp Taco
This taco has battered shrimps, cabbage, pico de gallo, chipotle dressing, cream, and it is served on two corn tortillas. When he took his first bite, Chef Danny claimed that the tortillas were very dry; he said that they had lost humidity when exposed to outside air.
Though the batter had a lot of flavor, its saltiness level was too high. The dressing added freshness to the taco and had good flavor. However, both the tortillas and the batter caused this taco to lose points, which is why it gets a rating of 5.6.
Price: $2.35 dollars ($40 pesos)
Gobernador Taco
This taco has shrimp, pico de gallo, cabbage, cheese, cream, chipotle dressing, and it is served on two corn tortillas. Though the tortillas were fried, Chef Danny did not like that they had been burned, as they had the remains of what had been previously cooked on the grill.
When he tried it, Chef Danny said that this burned area was extremely bitter. The dressing and cream helped to lighten the flavor a little bit. One could taste the burned portion in the shrimp too, which was salty, though tolerable. The cheese had a good flavor, but the “dirt” in the tortilla completely eclipsed everything else in this taco. This is why this taco gets a rating of 2.5, which is the worst rating ever given on this show.
Price: $2.94 dollars ($50 pesos)
