Full of flavor! Porgy chicharron by “Mariscos Anicetos” impresses in Tijuana

The flavor of their shrimp machaca, however, did not stand out

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Mariscos Anicetos” located at Camino Guadalupe Victoria 4, Mariano Matamoros. On this occasion he tried two tacos: a shrimp machaca taco and a porgy chicharron taco, both priced at $5.29 dollars ($90 pesos).

Shrimp Machaca Taco

This taco has shrimp machaca, pico de gallo, cheese, and it is served on two corn tortillas. The first thing to note about this taco is that the shrimp had been ground and the tortillas had been greased. When Chef Danny tried it, he was impressed by a burst of butter flavor and how fried the tortilla was. When he grabbed the taco, he claimed that it was quite heavy.

Chef Danny stated that though the stew had a good flavor, it wasn’t very impressive because instead of the protein standing out, he was able to taste more the flavors of the bell pepper, tomato, onion, and butter, despite the fact that it had a lot of shrimp. The cheese was soft enough that it melted in the mouth and it incorporated itself well with the rest of the ingredients. This is why this taco gets a rating of 7.8.

Porgy Chicharron Taco

This taco has porgy chicharron, pico de gallo, sour cream, and it is served on two corn tortillas. The first thing to note about this taco is that the pieces of porgy chicharron and the taco had a good size. The protein also looked “super crunchy”.

Chef Danny was surprised when he took his first bite because, due to the color of the chicharron, he thought that the chicharron, a burned flavor, or the oil would take precedence. However, the ingredient that stood out was the fish, which had been covered in a spiced flour with spicy touches, such as chiltepin chili pepper. The cream and the pico de gallo helped to lighten up the taco, which is why this taco gets a rating of 8.8.
