The Tijuana International Airport has installed lactation pods in its facilities, demonstrating a commitment to the rights of breastfeeding mothers. This initiative aims to provide a safe, hygienic, and private space for women to breastfeed or express milk while traveling through the airport.
These pods are designed for comfort and privacy, aligning with a global trend in airports to improve the travel experience for families with infants. The move responds to growing societal demand for appropriate breastfeeding spaces in public areas.
The lactation pods installed at the airport are from Nuvola, a state-of-the-art Mexican company that builds smart lactation pods for public and corporate spaces. They feature advanced technology, including: electrical outlets, proper lighting and ventilation, privacy and security systems, and mobile app access options.
Mexico’s General Health Law (Article 64, Sections II and II BIS) mandates that health authorities promote breastfeeding education and support, including direct diet support to improve mother-child nutrition and the installation of lactation rooms in both public and private workplaces.
In 2025, Nuvola’s Instagram page announced its arrival at the Tijuana International Airport, marking a major step toward more inclusive public spaces that respect the needs of breastfeeding mothers. This also positions Tijuana as a family-friendly airport committed to passenger well-being.

Breastfeeding in Mexico
Breastfeeding in Mexico has seen significant progress in the last decade but still faces structural challenges. According to the 2022 National Health and Nutrition Survey, the rate of exclusive breastfeeding during a baby’s first six months of life rose from 14.4% in 2012 to 33.6% in 2022.
However, Mexico remains below the 50% target recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) for 2025. Experts widely recognize the benefits of breastfeeding, as it improves infant health and development.
