California gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra has renewed his pledge to “protect and lead” the state against the policies of President Donald Trump’s administration.
With Election Day just days away, the Democratic candidate issued a statement on his official website criticizing the administration, claiming that the president’s return to office has brought instability to California communities.
“In the past year, Trump and his administration have terrorized our communities, attacked our values, and made life harder and more unaffordable for our families.,” Becerra stated.

Reaffirming his commitment to counter aggressive federal overreach, Becerra emphasized that the state must step in whenever the well-being of its residents is threatened.
“When Trump and his administration threaten access to healthcare, affordable housing, fair wages, or protections for immigrants and marginalized communities, the state has a responsibility to step in and fight. I am that fighter,” he stated.
The candidate pointed to his record of pushback against federal policies during his tenure as California’s Attorney General, during which he filed 122 lawsuits against the first Trump administration.
From defending the “Dreamers” program to safeguarding California’s legal autonomy, Becerra highlighted his focus on moving “towards progress rather than backwards,” specifically citing environmental justice and reproductive rights as key priorities.

“I had the privilege to represent and defend California when Trump attacked our laws or values, and I am ready to get back in the ring again as Governor,” he added, reaffirming his belief in the “California Dream” and advocating for equal opportunity, safety, and health for all working families.
Becerra currently holds a commanding lead in the polls over his Republican rival, Steve Hilton. A recent survey by Emerson College shows the Tijuana-rooted candidate leading Hilton at 60%, while a UC Berkeley IGS poll places Becerra at 58% among likely voters giving him a lead of at least 25 percentage points heading into the final stretch.
