New Hotline to Report Immigrant Detainments

Activists spread website and a help hotline in case a loved one is detained

Organizations in favor of immigration rights create the ICE Out of LA! Coalition, which aims to deal with mass deportation issues in the city of Los Angeles, they recently created a website and opened a hotline.

Since September, they've reported a huge number of raids carried out by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).[/b] They've detained people who haven't committed any serious crimes and put them in deportation processes.

According to state laws, people who haven't committed any serious crimes can't be turned over to ICE by local authorities. However, with the new Priority Enforcement Program (PEP) in place, departments can now collaborate between each other, and activists believe that these deportation detainments will only increase.

"We offer our resources on how to proceed with a deportation, we get them in touch with lawyers and if we have the capacity, we can even provide help in some cases", said Marcela Hernández of La Opinión, which is one of 23 organizations that make up the Immigrant Youth Coalition (IYC).

This new initiative was presented outside of the Immigration offices in Downtown LA, where activists where carrying banners and signs that read, "If someone was detained by ICE, please call 1-844-878-7801."
