This Monday, August 23rd, the future governor of the State of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, met with renowned film actor Mel Gibson.

For the first woman to govern the state of Baja California in its history, taking advantage of the talent within the state, as well as boosting the region as a suitable space for local, national and international creativity is a favorable strategy for economic strengthening, which is especially necessary after the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the meeting, the economic flow resulting from the filming, the generation of jobs, and the consumption that is significantly increased in restaurants and hotels, which also strengthens the tourist activity, were discussed.

Marina del Pilar pointed out that, in particular, the film industry represents a great opportunity for the state, since not only are there outstanding professionals in the field, but the state has a privileged geographic location, given its proximity to the film capital of the world: Los Angeles.

In addition to this, our state has diverse climates and ecosystems that can, together with our cities, be useful for producers, who can find the necessary facilities to undertake their projects in our state, generating projects of mutual enrichment, as it promotes the state and can also reduce production costs.

The Elected Governor considered that Baja California has institutions of higher education that educate film professionals and specialists, who require opportunities to participate in international productions, as well as to undertake their own projects, which is why she reaffirmed the commitments she made during the election campaign.

In that sense, the meeting with Gibson served to reaffirm some ideas and generate new ones, which will be applied in real context in the coming years, since the orange economies based on creative industries are undoubtedly an engine to boost development in the state, especially if they work hand in hand with the new generations of creators.
