Two cases of missing children solved in Baja California

Sisters found safe, while boy was murdered

TIJUANA – Two cases of missing children have been solved in recent days, one ending with two siblings found safe and the other with two people accused of murder.

Two sisters, ages 11 and 12, who were reported missing from their Tijuana home by their father on Sept. 6, were found safe by municipal police the next day.

State authorities would not give details about the case, other than to say they were continuing their investigation. The girls, Leslie Karina and Jazmín Esther Sosa Carrera, were turned over to the city’s family agency.

The other case involved eleven-year-old Haziel Ruiz Fuentes, who disappeared from a sports field July 26 in Ensenada. Signs with his picture were put up in public places across the state and authorities disseminated his information across the border, as well.

Some 24 hours after he was reported missing, the body of a minor was found near a beach called El Salitral, southeast of Ensenada.

State Attorney General Rommel Moreno announced last week that forensic tests had determined that the body was the missing boy. An autopsy indicated that he had been asphyxiated.

Moreno said that the boy’s stepfather, Joel Reyna Rodríguez, and his 17-year-old nephew, had been charged with his murder.

Rodriguez apparently wanted to build a new life with the boy’s mother but without her son and carried out his homicide, with his nephew’s help, the Attorney General said.
