The curve of active cases of COVID-19 continues to rise in Baja California

They ask not to stop protecting ourselves and to reduce mobility so that these cases decrease and the third wave does not impact so strongly in the State.

The transmission of COVID-19 in Baja California continues to increase its speed by registering an Effective Reproduction Rate (ER) of 1.27 this Wednesday, when it was 1.25 on Tuesday, informed the head of the Secretariat of Health, Alonso Perez Rico.

Today, one person with coronavirus can infect at least two more people in this State. At the same time, five of the six municipalities in this region have an ER above one, with Mexicali leading the list with 1.39 and rising. Tijuana has an ER of 1.29, Tecate of 1.18, Ensenada of 1.08, Rosarito of 1, San Quintin of 0.83 and San Felipe of 0.32.

"In 14 days we are going to see more active cases," assured the Secretary of Health, in view of the current state of this indicator, which is tending to continue to rise.

It is worth mentioning that active cases went from 353 to 365 as of yesterday morning, with Mexicali going up from 159 to 163, Tijuana from 114 to 123 and Ensenada from 45 to 47; while San Quintin decreased from 21 to 18 and Tecate went from seven to eight active cases.

Perez Rico reminded that the beginning of the third wave of COVID-19 is expected to arrive in Baja California at the end of this month, for which he said:

“Right now what we are asking everyone is: let's protect ourselves; we have this opportunity, we have these two weeks, almost three weeks of April to take great care of ourselves and so that we do not enter a third wave with a disadvantage of many cases and high hospital occupancy”.

This is because he assured that with fewer active cases, the impact of this next wave might not be as strong as it is being observed in Europe.

So far, hospital occupancy due to this disease is 21.86%, with 65 patients confirmed with COVID-19 hospitalized yesterday, and 32 more intubated.

Regarding the latter, Perez Rico said that if they continue to increase, not only will massive restrictions occur, but that trying to lower this curve could take between eight to 10 weeks.

According to the Secretary's report, in the last 24 hours 144 new infections were registered and 25 Baja Californians lost their lives.
