El Taquito: Are you familiar with Tijuana's 16-peso basket tacos?

Chef Danny Betancourt was stunned with the extra taco they gave him

Chef Danny Betancourt encountered some tacos that drew his eye in this part of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana; these are the "El Taquito" Canasta Tacos, located in Villa Fontana, specifically on the Boulevard de las Aguas. Two tacos were sampled in this location, one consisting of chicharrón and the other of cochinita pibil, which cost 16 pesos (USD 0.75).

Taco de Cochinita Pibil
Our host was given this clue first, and he mentioned that one of the features of the basket cleats is that they are dipped in oil. Cochinita pibil, pickled purple onions with habanero chile, white onion, coriander, and green sauce make up the taco, which is served on a tiny corn tortilla similar to the one used for adobada tacos.

Danny commented that the cochinita had much flavor, that bittersweet tone that it had when he took the first bite, but this is typically because a tortilla could not support the amount of fat in which these tacos are bathed. Danny also commented that the cochinita had much flavor, that bittersweet tone that it had when he took the first bite, but this is typically because a tortilla could not support the amount of fat in which these tacos are bathed. The pickled onion is distinctive because it has a hint of heat that goes well with tacos. This taco received a 5.6 out of 10 ratings.

Taco de Chicharrón
This one features the pork rind, green cabbage, white onion, coriander, green sauce, and the same style of oil-bathed tortilla. One of the first things he said was that the pig rind in this taco contains fragments of flesh in it, in addition to the flavorful stew with sauce in which it is made.

The acidity of the green sauce, although being modest and slightly watery, serves to accentuate the taco's salty touches while also balancing them. This cue received a 6.5 rating.

Una Bite Tacos Tijuana is usually full of surprises, and this time was no different, as El Taquito's staff offered our host "the pilón," from his restaurant.

Taco Suadero
As Danny pointed out, no one can deny the pilón, which has super beef, onion, cilantro, green sauce, and the traditional oil-soaked tortilla. Our host was startled by the meat when he tasted it since it seemed like a paste, similar to when meat is mashed until it becomes a fine or thin mash. This cue received a 7.5 rating.

Price: $ 16 pesos (about $0.75)
