IMAGES: Tijuana's Public Transit Workers Paralyze the City with Protests

Local citizens were affected by the protests since early morning

TIJUANA – Since very early in the morning, Tijuana citizens were seriously affected by blockades organized by the city’s public transit workers in key points of the city like the Vía Rápida and near Tijuana’s City Hall.

The blockades are due to a change in Tijuana's public transit guidelines, where transit workers claim the local government will take away their "livelihoods", changes that will come with the new BRT system scheduled to start operating in the next few months.

Most vehicles commuting towards the San Ysidro port of entry had to take alternate routes due to public transit workers blocking main roads near Tijuana’s City Hall, since the blockade made it impossible for normal traffic to flow in that area.

Tijuana citizens took their traffic complaints to social media and recommended others to not drive around these areas, some were even stuck in traffic for hours, as stated by this woman who claims it took her around an hour to drive from the Buena Vista bridge towards the Juan Ojeda Robles bridge, which is located over the west side of the Vía Rápida.
