New Tijuana Manufacturing Industry Program Offers Jobs to Deportees

The pilot plan of this program began last Monday

TIJUANA.- At the inauguration of the 43rd edition of the National Convention of the Maquila and Export Industry, directors of INDEX and the National Institute of Migration (INAMI), signed a collaboration agreement to employ Mexican nationals deported from the United States .

The signing of the agreement was headed by the President of the National Council of the Maquiladora and Export Industry (INDEX), Federico Serrano, and the commissioner of the National Institute of Migration, Ardelio Vargas Fosado.

The agreement was signed by the governor of Baja California, Francisco Vega, and the undersecretary of Population, Migration and Religious Affairs of the Ministry of the Interior, Humberto Roque.

In a press conference, Serrano explained that the objective is to cover the current labor deficit of the automotive, aerospace, metal-mechanic, and medical devices sector, among others, whose figure is estimated at 60 thousand jobs in the North, Center and South of the country.

"We started with a pilot plan last Monday in Tijuana, and now 20 foreign nationals have already been deported," said the national president of INDEX.

"It is a great achievement for the state to host such an important event, as we are accompanied by officials from the three levels of government and businessmen from the United States, who are accompanying us to celebrate the first 50 years of the Maquiladora Industry in Mexico," he said. .

This agreement intends to fill the vacancies of employment in Tijuana, about 10 thousand places in the metal-mechanic, medical, automotive, aerospace and electronic sectors.

Finally, he emphasized that Tijuana is the first municipality to implement this program in 12 companies that are part of INDEX.
