The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, said to Montserrat Caballero that none of her enemies have ever achieved what she has, something she stated during the 134th anniversary of the foundation of Tijuana.

Marina del Pilar said the following during a civic ceremony at the central yard of the Municipal Palace:

If today there are people who attack openly with misogyny, you can be at peace knowing that the people of Tijuana are with you and that in this state administration, you have a friend that will always support you

During her speech, the governor pointed out that today Tijuana is governed by a great woman, Montserrat Caballero, who was sworn in with a historic vote supported by Tijuana natives.

Ávila Olmeda pointed out:

Montserrat, you represent the essence of this city, because Tijuana is full of inspiring stories, of immigrant women who never gave up and who achieved their dreams. You arrive in Tijuana when you were very young. You didn’t have an easy childhood and here you are, governing Mexico’s most populated municipality and the busiest border in the world.

During her speech, Mayor Montserrat Caballero Ramírez highlighted that this is a good moment to overcome differences and hostilities and to leave behind political flags and everything that divides us.

The mayor insisted on building the city that we want, we dream of, and we deserve where we need to work together in order to define common goals to grow and have a better city.

The mayor recalled that Tijuana is a young city where history combines with the horizons of our ancestors who gave us an identity, where, through 134 years of history, we have a multicultural tradition that transcends borders.

The first female mayor mentioned that one day like today, but 134 years ago, this noble city was born, where men and women fought to found this border and the heritage of a multicultural tradition.

These have been 134 years of efforts, work, and love of Tijuana by hundreds of families that were born here and arrived here to work in maquiladoras, in public transportation, in trade. Because that is what Tijuana natives are made of: of empathy, of struggle, of an entrepreneur spirit, of solidarity and responsibility.

Accompanied by her cabinet and special guests, the mayor of Tijuana, as a Oaxaca native woman, reaffirmed her commitment to work for everyone who dreams of a better city, because the best way to celebrate it is with work, with facts, and not with speeches.
