Governor Marina del Pilar strengthens monitoring and recommendations in Baja California due to Hurricane Hilary

The governor pointed out that a network of available shelters to assist people who need it is available

Due to the arrival of heavy rain and winds in Baja California due to Hurricane Hilary, the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar monitored the situation at the State Center of Emergency Operations of the State Coordination of Civil Protection (CEPC) to reiterate recommendations to safeguard families in the region.

The state governor stated that monitoring actions in real time allow them to improve strategies to protect all people, especially those located in risky areas such as mountainsides, canyons, and low coastal areas.

As such, Marina del Pilar invited people in these areas to protect themselves by calling 911 so that they can move to a temporary shelter or, in case they don't need it, to stay with a family member who is in a less risky situation.

Marina del Pilar explained that there is currently capacity to assist more than 9,000 people in the state, which means shelter from the hurricane from all those who need it is guaranteed.

She made a call to not let one's guard down and reaffirmed that protecting the total population can save lives, which is why she encouraged people to take precautions such as strengthening windows, making roofs safe, and cutting tree branches that could fall, among other things.

In addition, she also encouraged people not to go to non-essential public activities this weekend, which is why classes were suspended until Monday, August 21 at all education levels in order to protect school communities during the hurricane. As such, she invited all people to stay alert and keep an eye on official sources of information and to maintain direct communication with authorities.
