Alejandra León proposes permanent work council for assemblymembers in Baja California and California

Water, energy, and security are some of the challenges that Alejandra León wants Baja California and California to address together

On Friday, September 22, senator Alejandra León Gastelum proposed a permanent work council for assemblymembers, congresspeople, and the private sector of Baja California and California.

This initiative’s goal is to provide solution to binational challenges faced by both regions such as the management and treatment of water, energy, customs, security, and immigration flow.

Regarding electrical energy, the legislator, representative of the Movimiento Ciudadano party, pointed out that today there is a scarcity of electricity in border areas, because the Mexican state is not connected to the national network.

Since Baja California is connected to the electrical energy network of California, USA, and also because of water supply, León proposed the implementation of a permanent work council whose goal is to address strategies to improve conditions regarding energy, water, immigration, and other matters.

Just like the assemblymember representing San Diego’s 80th district, David Álvarez, the senator highlighted the commitment that exists so that neighboring states can resolve these conflicts and incentivize better solutions.

Let’s recall that on August 29, 2023, Álvarez publicly announced an investment of more than 3 million dollars to carry out an investigation regarding the quality of water brought from Baja California to California.

During this event, the state senator spoke about Imperial Beach and South San Diego, regions where 100 billion gallons of untreated water have been affected and have caused California’s beaches to be polluted since 2018.

This investigation is being carried out by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, being supported by the best scientific personnel in order to resolve this crisis that is affecting all American and Mexican inhabitants.
