Sanz lending his voice to Mexican reality show

Program's goal is to find the next singing star in Mexico

TIJUANA – "La Voz … México," the new reality show from Televisa that soon will be broadcast by Univision in the United States, has added Spanish singing star Alejandro Sanz as one of the four coaches.

Olivia Flores, a spokeswoman for Televisa México, said that Sanz will share his experience along with singers Lucero, Aleks Syntek and Espinoza Paz. Together, they are tasked with discovering and developing the next great Mexican voice.

The program will debut on September 11 at 8 p.m. in Televisa's Canal de las Estrellas.

The goal of the program is to discover the best voice, regardless of what the person looks like or the musical genre.

Last month, around 200,000 people auditioned in cities across Mexico, including Tijuana, to become a contestant. Another 100,000 did so through the Internet. In a few weeks, the show will present the 150 who made the initial cut.

The coaches will not be able to see the contestants, only listen to their voice before deciding to add them to their team. At the end, each coach will have 12 contestants who they will train to be the next singing sensation.

Alejandro Sanz has sold more than 22 million discs throughout his career and is the artist from Spain who has won the most Grammy awards, a total of 19.

He's recorded 14 albums, which have gone platinum in various countries.
