Peninsular train connecting Tijuana with Cabo San Lucas could become a reality

A MORENA representative proposed this project

Can you imagine a train that connects Tijuana with Cabo San Lucas? This is something that has been discussed for many years and hasn’t been able to be achieved. This, however, could change since the original Pan-American Geography and History project has been picked up by a federal representative.

Miguel Torruco Garza, MORENA party representative, presented on February 22 a project reform to the Regulatory Law of the Railway System that includes a 1,750-kilometer railway for a peninsular train that connects the touristic cities of Tijuana and Cabo San Lucas.

It is expected that this railway system helps to create a sustainable transportation system to reduce carbon emissions and comply with the Paris Agreement. Concretely, the idea is that the route follows the Transpeninsular Highway, but in direction towards Todos Santos, instead of Los Barriles.

This will be an important step in the development of the country, it was stated through media platform California Hoy since using cargo and passenger trains, managed by the Mexican state will mean that current American companies with cargo routes will be expropriated and this way, the tourism industry can be promoted.

It should be noted that the construction of a peninsular railway system was an idea that has been raised since 1890, when a plan was designed by Compañía Internacional. In fact, some railways were constructed, though not concluded, starting in San Quintín and extended 25 kilometers to the south.
