Marina del Pilar leads campaign to aid seniors in Baja California

The governor of Baja California thanked the support of the federal government, which has strengthened programs for seniors and the elderly

Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, the governor of Baja California, led the Mobile Campaign to Detect Cataracts, as well as the Senior Citizen Fair (Feria del Adulto Mayor) at Colonia Parajes de Puebla in Mexicali, where elderly people were tested visually for cataracts and other medical needs.

The state governor pointed out that, since the beginning of this program, more than 241 cataract interventions have been performed. The goal is for there to be 500 surgeries at the end of the year by the Secretariat of Health of Baja California, led by José Adrián Medina Amarillas.

Marina del Pilar highlighted that there are currently three mobile health units with specialized ophthalmological equipment, which are used to carry out the exams everywhere in the state, allowing more seniors to know what their health status is so that they can have a free surgery.

In her speech to those present, the governor stated that their goal is to reach 1,000 surgeries in 2023, by allocating a socially led budget that prioritizes the needs of the most vulnerable groups such as seniors.

It should be noted that, with support from the federal government, there is currently a delivery of economic aid for people who are 60 years of age or older, with the state being the one in charge of delivering it until they are 64 years and 11 months old and the federation handling it when the person turns 65 years old.

“We won’t leave you alone. We are going to continue promoting the Fourth Transformation in Baja California with support from our President Andrés Manuel López Obrador who congratulated us for our first year and has reiterated that we have his full support. From Mexicali we tell him that he also has our support to achieve this government’s project”, she underscored.
