Xolos vs. Atlante pre-season game to be in Tijuana

Team signs two more players for upcoming season

TIJUANA –Tickets are for sale for Wednesday night's pre-season match of the Xoloitzcuintles against Atlante at Caliente Stadium.

The Xolos' management had wanted to play at Southwestern College, but those plans fell through and the game was moved to Caliente. That's where the Xolos played last Wednesday, winning a tune-up game against Veracruz 1-0.

Meanwhile, the team announced the signing of two more players, Greg Garza and Alfredo González Tahuilán, for the upcoming Clausura season, which begins next month.

Garza, a left wing, most recently played for Estoril Praia of Portugal. The 20-year-old has double-citizenship (United States and Mexico) and is a teammate of Joe Corona in the U.S.U-23 team preparing for the 2012 Olympics.

Garza was part of the U.S. U-17 that reached the Round of 16 in the FIFA World Cup in South Korea in 2007.

He was born in Grapevine, Texas, and in 2005 played in Sao Paulo, Brazil, returned to the United States, playing in Dallas, and then moved to Portugal.

"We're very happy with Greg's performance," said Jorgealberto Hank, during a press conference to announce his signing. "He's an interesting player and we're expecting good things from him in Club Tijuana."

The Xolos also signed González Tahuilán, 31, a veteran of Mexico's First Division. The defender played for Águilas del América, where he began in 2000, as well as Club San Luis, Tigres de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León and Atlas.

A native of Mexico City, he also has international experience, having played in the Libertadores Cup and South American Cup in the 2008-2009 seasons.

This off-season the Xolos also acquired Duvier Riascos, from Colombia, and Edgar Castillo, another Mexican-American player.

The Xoloitzcuintles begin the Clausura season on Jan. 6, with a match against Monarcas in Morelia. They have their home-opener on Jan. 15, when they square off against the Rayados of Monterrey.
