Before starting with his report, Baja California's Health Secretary, Alonso Pérez Rico, informed this Wednesday that the state received more than 11 thousand tests of antigens, which they started using three days ago in the fever clinics, which allow them to give the results on COVID-19 in 30 minutes.

As he explained, these rapid tests have over 95% sensitivity and are also performed through the nose, showing a positive or negative result for coronavirus in a shorter time compared to the PCR test that takes between 24 and 48 hours. At the same time, he emphasized that this is not the antibody test, and that this can also be registered in its platform, while the antibody one is not.

"However, the molecular PCR test against SARS CoV 2, cannot be stopped because that is the gold standard, since it is close to 100% of sensibility".

Thanks to this, 627 new cases of coronavirus were registered in the region, corresponding to 48 hours. "We are going to do more tests in the state, we are going to diagnose more people," he said.

Of these recent cases, 318 were located in Tijuana, 108 in Ensenada, 102 in Mexicali, 50 in San Quintín, 24 in Tecate, 23 in Rosarito and two in San Felipe.

In addition, Pérez Rico indicated that 83 Baja Californians have died recently, of which 40 were in Tijuana, 26 in Mexicali, 13 in Ensenada, two in Tecate and two in San Quintín.

With this, Baja California reached 33 thousand positive cases accumulated by COVID-19 and 5 thousand 341 unfortunate deaths.

So far, active cases have also increased, currently totaling 866, with Tijuana being the municipality that reported a rise of 100 more, thus having 310.

With the application of the new tests, it is expected that active cases will increase and that the state will begin in 2021 in maximum alert of the epidemiological traffic light chart.
