The Mayan Train construction is currently underway and with this, the expertise of new passenger train routes in Mexico. These modes of transportation have been very scarce in the country and due to the Covid-19 pandemic, some of them had to suspend their services.

The upgrading of these routes will expand the railway system in Mexico, connecting the entire country through 11 lines by 2050. The longest one of these will be the Pacific Train, which will have an extension of 4,700 kilometers (2,920 miles) from Tijuana all the way to Chiapas.

Currently, there are three railway lines in the country: “El Chepe” which travels from Sinaloa to Chihuahua; “Tequila Express” which travels from Guadalajara to Tequila, and the “Tijuana-Tecate Route” which travels through both municipalities in around 2 and a half hours.

The Tijuana-Tecate route has a capacity for 280 people, who are able to visit several different stops on their way to the magical town of Tecate. The creation of the Pacific Train route will boost tourism in the city as it connects Tijuana with Chiapas and the states that the train will travel through during its railway route.
