Baja California is reaching a plateau: Secretary of Health

Once this week is over, it will be informed if the traffic light will be changed and if other activities will be reopened or if capacity will be increased.

Baja California continues with a constant decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases. In the last 24 hours at least one person died due to this disease, which has not happened for a long time, commented the head of the Secretariat of Health, Alonso Perez Rico. In the same period of hours, 31 new cases were reported.

On the other hand, the active cases with which the state starts this week are 479, while a month ago there were one thousand 478.

"Something is happening here, we are reaching a plateau, which means that the negative trend is slowing down, so we are going to plateau. We are going to reach a point where we are going to have this number of patients, this is normal and expected; we obviously want to continue decreasing but now we are going to see it both in active cases and in hospital occupancy and patients on ventilators," explained the Secretary of Health on Monday.

Most of these active cases continue to be located in Tijuana, where they total 173, followed by Mexicali with 148, Ensenada with 74, San Quintin with 45, Rosarito with 19, Tecate with 11 and San Felipe with nine.

Regarding hospital occupancy, Perez Rico commented that it is currently 20.9%, when 30 days ago it was 61.64%. In addition, there are 753 beds and 204 ventilators available statewide.

According to the head of this agency, 144 patients were hospitalized due to coronavirus, and 81 patients are in need of a ventilator.

In spite of this, health authorities asked the population not to abandon prevention measures since "Covid has not gone anywhere, it is still here".

So far, the accumulated COVID-19 infections in Baja California total 42 thousand 885, and 7 thousand 201 people have died.

Perez Rico detailed that the actions taken on February 14 are being analyzed, so once the 15 days after that date have passed, that is, after February 28, the active cases will be analyzed and based on this, the color of the traffic light with which the entity will continue will be determined.

Once the color of the traffic light is known, it will also be confirmed if other activities will be reopened or if there is an increase in the number of cases, he added.
