“Mariscos El Ángel” in Tijuana has one of the best batter fried shrimp tacos

Chef Danny also tried a marlin taco with shrimp

On this episode of Una Mordida Tacos Tijuana, our host Chef Danny Betancourt went to “Mariscos El Ángel” located at Ing. Juan Ojeda Robles, Colonia Buena Vista. On this occasion he tried two tacos: an Ensenada-style batter fried shrimp taco and a marlin taco with shrimp, both priced at $4.58 dollars ($78 pesos).

Ensenada-Style Batter Fried Shrimp Taco

This taco has battered shrimp, cabbage, pico de gallo, pickled onion, cream, black salsa, and it is served on two homemade flour tortillas. At first, the fact that it was served on flour tortillas surprised Chef Danny, as well as the fact that it had black salsa.

When he grabbed it, he claimed that it had a good size as it was heavy. When he took his first bite, Chef Danny was surprised by the taco’s good flavor. He said that the batter was crunchy and the protein was still juicy and that the onion, pico de gallo, and cabbage added a good contrast.

Chef Danny said that the black salsa was similar to the ones used for clamatos, and that it, along with the flour tortillas, added a lot flavor. This is why this taco got a rating of 9.2, one of the highest ratings Chef Danny has ever given to this type of taco.

Marlin Taco with Shrimp

This taco has marlin and shrimp stew, pico de gallo, cabbage, pickled onion, and it is served on two homemade flour tortillas. Just like in the previous dish, Chef Danny claimed that it was quite heavy due to all the ingredients that it has.

The first thing to note was the flour tortilla as it was thick and had a lard taste, which was used to handmade them. For obvious reasons, the marlin flavor overwhelmed the shrimp flavor with a good salt level. However, the ingredients that stood out were the flour tortilla and the cheese. Chef Danny said that the vegetables helped this taco a lot which is why it gets a rating of 9.0.
